Skills and Tools Learnt from Project One

Over the course of project one, I have used many new skills and tools. Here is a list of those, and the industry job roles that they relate to in a professional capacity.

Software Used:

  • GameMaker: Studio - All roles would be involved in working with the game engine.
  • Adobe Photoshop
  • Adobe Illustrator
  • PiskelApp - These three programs would be used by the art team, to create art assets.
  • Google Docs
  • Google Drive
  • Google Slides - These three programs would primarily be used by team leaders, such as lead designer, lead artist, to communicate with their teams.
  • Survey Monkey - Survey software would be used by the PR team, to gather feedback from various sources.

Skills Developed:

  • Programming in GML - This would be the main skill a programmer would use over the project
  • Concept art creating in Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Creating pixel art in PiskelApp - These two skills would be used by the art team, also designers and directors would maybe produce some concept art early in the development process when pitching their idea.
  • Creating pre-production documents in Google Drive and Google Docs - Used by designers and directors
  • Project management - A director would be tasked with managing the entire project, and they would then defer to team leaders to manage their individual teams
  • Presentation skills - A director or team leader would use presentation skills to communicate with their team
  • Problem solving in GameMaker - This would primarily be a skill used by programmers
  • Object Oriented Programming - Again, programmers
  • Game Design - Game designers would use their knowledge of game design to craft the experience
