Decals in Illustrator & Unreal Engine 4

Today we looked at creating decals for use in UE4. I used the pencil tool in Adobe Illustrator to create a sci-fi looking image, with angular lines of varying width, then mirrored it for perfect symmetry. Then using the export selection tool, I saved the image as a transparent PNG image.

Moving over to Unreal Engine 4, I imported the image, and used it to create a material. Opening the blueprint allows me to change the material domain to 'deffered decal'. Changing it to a decal means that I can place the image all over the level at will, just like if it were a sticker. This decal method works with any PNG file, whether created by myself or downloaded from the internet, as long as the PNG has transparency.
