For my next project, I will be working with Mitchell, on a game focused on storytelling through environment. Today we drafted up the framework for how we are going to tell our story, and we have settled upon a five room layout, connected by a single corridor. However, the rooms will all be the same room (i.e They'll all be a bedroom), but they will represent said room at different stages in the character's life. For example, the first instance would be the room on the 18th February 1983, then the second instance would be the room on the 28th May 1990 etc. These dates will hold significant emotional value for the character due to life changing events happening around that time.
Each instance of the room will represent the emotions that the character feels in that moment, and these emotions will be displayed through some of the following elements:
- Lighting
- Composition of Items
- Music
- Diary Entries
- Size of Room
These rooms will tell the story of a single character, and their journey through life, relationships, trials and tribulations.
We created a couple of rough templates in Unreal Engine and these were the results:
